Sarawak Bireh Red Rice

SARAWAK Bireh Red Rice / Beras Merah Sarawak (Semipolished) is a local red rice variety planted mainly by the Bidayuh community from Siburan, Padawan and Lundu districts in Sarawak. The rice is popular among the locals as it is believed to help lower cholesterol levels. It is rich in essential nutrients such as manganese, calcium and high in anti-oxidants.

The rice's natural red colour exists naturally due to a flavonoid compound known as anthocyanin, which is found in the outer coating of the grain. The rice is flavourful and aromatic when cooked.
